Ryan White was diagnosed with HIV in 1984 from a contaminated batch of Factor VIII, used to treat his hemophilia. White later became an advocate against the stigmatization of HIV/AIDS in America after being barred from returning to school due to parents and teachers petitioning to have him removed. He died at age 18, in 1990.
