Ship 5 concept: Valkyrie class Battlestar

So, obviously we're only really supposed to have access to Gunstars... But hear me out, commanders.

The Valkyrie class Battlestar is basically a Gunstar. Yes, it has PDCs, but it doesn't have Battlestar Artillery, just heavier guns. (Deadlock played it out this way and it was perfect. RIP to it not being in the first war.)

But as an owner (probably one of the few) of the BSG Scattered Hopes Artbook, there's some interesting stats to look at on the Gunstars.

Callisto class (The Wanderers)
Assault Gunstar
Length: 766m
Width: 339m
Height: 133m

8 Viper launch tubes, 2 landing pods.

It's a pocket battlestar. Plain and simple, it's like a Mercury's baby brother.

Atalanta (The Convoy)
Artillery Gunstar
Length: 792m
Width: 275m
Height: 156m

4 Viper launch tubes, one landing bay (Well, really two.)

Most gun focused Gunstar

Erebus (The Vanguard)
Electronic Warfare Gunstar
Length: 749m
Width: 270m
Height: 166m

8x Viper launch tubes, 2 landing pods.

Funky control Gunstar.

Ares (The Guerilla)
Carrier Gunstar
Length: 748m
Width: 300m
Height: 232m

10 Viper launch tubes, one landing bay (hey this one's actually just one!)

It's a carrier.

So, bearing this all in mind, you want to know something funny?

Valkyrie Class Battlestar (The Warriors?)
Length: 648m
Width: 232m
Height: 68m

6x Viper launch tubes, two landing pods

This is a weird moment where there's a Battlestar that's smaller than every other Gunstar. It has less hangar space, it isn't as big, probably not as tough, but you know what it does have? Strong guns, MK VIIs and Raptors.

This thing's fascinating to me from a gameplay perspective. Depending on what canonicity you subscribe to, it's either a state of the art battlestar or a first war relic that was a precursor to Gunstars as we know them. It's odd.

I think it's a perfect fit for DLC, honestly. It'd probably be close to an Atalanta, but it's the only Battlestar that fits within the size range of the Gunstar gameplay. It's not infeasible one escaped and removed the CNP program, if these Gunstars had the same luck.

I dunno'! I'd just really love a chance to command one of these things, and if you wanted to give players a Battlestar to command, you could not possibly go wrong with the Valkyrie class. I think there's genuinely interesting design space here. I feel like its personality would be in its fleet and its passive.

What do y'all think?

Faction relations... don't make sense

So, I do not know about the show but I was a huge fan of crying suns because the gameplay mechanics felt like they were made for me specifically and wanted to see the new game they made. This game is great, I think it accomplishes what it wants to.

BUT, the faction mechanics is a bust. I love rts strategy games, 80% of my library is filled with them. The problem is 90% of the events are a lose lose. Especially in higher extinction levels because they start tense. Choosing to either give a faction materials and ignore the other or not giving anyone anything is a hard decision to make and a great one for the game. But lets put this in a game situation where every faction is fair. Then you lose on a faction and it moves a bit towards tense and the other one gains influence. Thats fine, but lets say both of these factions are tense. Then when you choose, one of them becomes hostile and starts a crisis and other one starts another one for gaining influence while being tense relations with us. If you choose to not give anyone anything than they both become hostile. This choice is neither engaging nor fun. Becuase the event feels like it was made to give a sacrifice to make some other thing better. But it only worsens things.

I am not a game dev of course but as a player I feel like when I get that event I am just pushed into a blackhole without a way to get out. I believe at least the factions we give influence should at least slightly improve with us because we favoured them in an important decision.

Another event for an example is the event where we either give them influence with money or materials and such, or lose relations. Giving them valuebles at least should improve our tense relation somewhat right? But no it makes them just get more powerful. Maybe if there was a relation better than fair, like ''liked'' we would have a breath room to sacrifice such relationships to save others.

I am as a player suppoed to be excited when an event pops up, but if I am at least tense with one faction (which is the status quo in most games) I feel like I am about to get punished with no chance of recover.

I believe this game can be another masterpiece like crying suns but except the story -because it is based on a show I haven't watched yet I cannot relate to much things and the game devs are limited on what they can add to the story- but it needs polishing with help from the playerbase.

faction relation/infuence is badly made! why can we give them more influence but cannot mend relation instead?

so i am a relatively new players, been playing a week, and that mechanic stump me, why for the love of anything is it that when relation deteriorate with a faction ( military, worker, underworld), if we make a choice in said faction favor, we increase the influence rather then improve relations is just bad mechanic in my opinion, influence should only be gained when relation is fair, or at least there should be options to improve relations mixed in!

Beat BaseStar, but still only had "Sacrifice" option

I finally killed the end battle BaseStar, but still only had "Sacrifice" as my Jump option.

The thing was dead falling apart, raiders kept spawning. The ending video was still ramming the BaseStar. What gives?
