I'Am.Who Am I?
Who am I, I wonder, in this vast existence?
What place is mine, and what does it mean to be here?
I am a drop of water catching the morning light
for one brief moment along the riverbank.
Then evening comes, and I am gone—
as though I had never shimmered at all.
I am a melody life once carried into the air,
heard by some, missed by others.
Silence will have its way with me, and I will fade
as though I had never reached an ear.
I am a shadow running beside time,
both of us moving too fast to be held.
Then the curtain falls, and I disappear from sight—
as though I had never hurried toward tomorrow.
I am a wave life sends toward open water,
growing, breaking, carried farther than I can see.
And soon, I will dissolve upon the shore,
as though I had never risen, never traveled, never been here at all.
