New model RG-DS

Just got my device last night, purchased from amazon. It has a white matte finish top, was expecting a glossy finish but I do prefer it with the matte! Can take better photos if someone wants them.

Setup with gamma OS and changed dajisho to Cocoon launcher. Followed the devs advice and disabled animations, set everything to instant and turned off the haptic feedback (under sound settings)

For drastic, turned off the high 3D rendering option, I've been getting 100% speed so far on balanced, but I don't keep the fps on during gameplay since it distracts me.

Awesome little ds machine for 100 bucks!

Stardew Valley + Gunther's Library app make the experience feel almost native to dual screens

Loving Stardew on the RG DS, especially because the Android version has SMAPI available, which means I can mod it as much as I want (and as much as the device will handle).

Feels super good on a touch screen!

RG DS Slim Grip by JCSFY

The slim case I ordered JUST arrived. Here are my first impressions:

pros:
• it’s lightweight yet very durable hard TPU (and not soft silicone like I imagined lol)
• the stylus holder fits the official stylus VERY snug. Passed the vigorous shake test.
- all holes for volume rocker, power button, lanyards holes, power indicators and 3.5mm jack are perfectly aligned.
• The felt cloth is nice and thick, the device comfortably slides into the slot, wrapping the back and bottom edges so your DS won’t make plastic-to-plastic contact with the case when equipped. Also spaces out to provide a thin layer of air for heat dissipation.
- easy to equip and fits very snug and will not slip off of it’s own.
• The weight of the unit equipped with the grip is lightweight and slim enough to fit in the official anbernic carrying case zipped completely closed.
• the 3D printed layer lines are noticeable but in this case it’s a good thing since it contributes to more grip.
• comfortable grip when holding it, fingers naturally rest on the inside curves.

cons:
- slippery in clammy hands
- some layer lines from the 3D printer are present, some may be sharp, be careful.
- $28.99 + shipping

Some good games for the RG DS that aren't Pokemon! Today, basic DS games

Pokemon constantly comes up when discussing the RG DS because, well, they're Pokemon, but what do you play once you're done with them or worse, when you don't like them?

That's me, I don't like mainline Pokemon games. I did enjoy Pokemon Lazarus a lot, and I guess with the amount of romhacks out there, Pokemon enthusiasts have a lot to play through.

I would like to share a weekly post about games that feel ideal on the RG DS because it's good to learn about games, to diversify one's tastes and whatnot. Pokemon games don't need mentioning, but maybe someone needs to be reminded of Harvest Moon, or needs to learn about fan translations in general.

So, this week's post is basic, as the title says. Will take mentions in the comments into consideration for next week's selection! I'm planning to include vertical arcade thingies and Android games too, considering that the stock OS is Android and that GammaOS is Android based too. I use GammaOS, so someone else will have to mention Rocknix stuff.

What are those?! 👟👟

Decided to give my DS some kicks to elevate from the surface. something something better for heat dissipation but honestly, I just want it elevated better than a little dot that’s built in. I don’t really pocket this anyways (anbernic case gang) so now it’s upgraded to be impact proof (rated for 2 inches and below).

They’re basically switches and server boots I scavenged from left over equipment from work.

Recommendations for first time users/owners

Hi! I'm new to this whole handheld scene and I just ordered my RG DS, my first brand handheld. I would like to ask for a few advice and handy tips, that would help me and potentially other new owners who stumble upon this post later.

I consider myself tech savy and I have a past with SBC-s, also set up my sister r36h console (costum OS on sd card, ports she wanted to be on it and also roms for specific systems).

Should I even try the stock OS or start with slapping something costum on it?

The chipset is way better than the r36h so I guess I can have portmaster working on the RG DS too. Can I somehow use the touchscreen as touchpad for games? Would be way better for Morrowind, and also great for playing something like Fallout 1-2.

My last question is to ask for game recommendations. :)
It would be great to have a recommendation for each genre or for different type/styles.

If I have time I'll tinker and try to improve it where I can, which I will share on this sub later. From what I have heard I might need to do something with the thermals and the battery/battery management. Sadly I don't have as much time as I used to have during college but I'll do what I can.

If there is any other tip you have, let everyone know!
