New to Buddhism, stuck on how to deepen my practice

Hello everyone.

Unfortunately I’m finding it hard to figure out where to go from here as a beginner. I’ve read a few books and articles on Buddhism, but I’m not sure how to actually continue or deepen my practice in a structured way.
I’m just a lay person, not interested in monastic life. My goals are living a more balanced and calmer life, I have quite high anxiety.

There are some in-person groups in my area , specifically Diamond Way and Shambhala, but I’ve read here that both can be controversial, so I’m hesitant and don’t really know what to make of that.

I’d love some honest perspective from people here.
Do you have any recommendations for good online courses or communities for someone starting out? And if anyone has experience with the groups I mentioned (or thoughts on finding a community in general), I’d really appreciate hearing it.
Thanks in advance.
