San Leandro Marine

In June, a Daily Review article on the Marina stated a bankruptcy judge was rendering a decision on July 30th.

Either the city gets the land or the developer.

Anyone know what happened?

2026 Congressional Candidate AMA w/ Jamie Joyce

Hey San Leandro! I just wanted to introduce myself for those who don't know me. I'm Jamie Joyce and I'm on your ballot for November (for Congress, House of Representatives). Ask me anything.

Quick bio: I've been leading teams who have built tools to improve policy decision-making and policy education for 8 years (including teaching students how to logically deconstruct legislation). I co-launched the "Democracy's Library" initiative at the Internet Archive (best known for the Wayback Machine) with the founder, Brewster Kahle. My career has been spent doing charity work, including directing funding to leaders and overseeing projects from Iraq to Malawi. I'm running because I am concerned we are not prepared to navigate technology in the best interest of everyday people, and I think my background can be helpful.

I'm endorsed by one of the most world-famous AI ethicists and Epstein survivors, and even though I've always been the scrappy underdog, my work has been respected enough to result in me being invited to present to government agencies and frontier AI labs. I would like to apply that work ethic and expertise in Congress so we not only stop losing ground, but we actually start making equitable gains. We don't have to let the corrupt class keep getting away with it.

El Niño preparation for San Leandro

Seeing a lot of early warnings for this El Niño season. Do any long time residents remember the extent of flooding in areas of the city from the 1997 El Niño event?

Does the city typically help provide sand bags for people and other services?

Starting the convo early…

Stores that accept non-recyclable bags?

What stores in the San Leandro/San Leandro area accept non-recyclable bags like bread bags, tortilla bags, etc.? These don’t go in regular residential blue bins (waste management). They can go in the trash. But if a retail market accepts them, they might be able to dispose of them at a commercial facility.

Pylon-Palooza On Bancroft Near Middle School

Goodness gracious, did the company get paid by the pylon? I live nearby, so was aware of the creek work being done there (I think?) over the last few months but then last week they put pylons up to redirect(?) traffic? Knowing how drivers drive in that section of Bancroft, I don't have long lived hope for the majority of those guys to stay standing 😂 Anyone know what the deal is?

Is Juan Gonzalez Toast?

Been seeing a lot of posts on Facebook from former supporters, including this most recent one below. With James Maes now running for mayor, I wonder if Gonzalez is gonna crash and burn like Cassidy did?

Edit: credit to OP Luna Strohm.

Edit 2: Here's another post from someone else about Gonzalez. It's crazy! https://www.facebook.com/stowzje/posts/pfbid02UfnW8wEZtD4cuSbny2uWffm4uXgoztT9RXD6cmyvxDKzkanxeqxjM2K9CfY5d8U2l

"There’s a man in San Leandro whose name I had never heard and whom I have never met.

Yesterday he put out a press release:

Misconduct, Misogyny, and Harassment Have no Place in San Leandro

Today, I am making a firm commitment to every City of San Leandro employee, contractor, and resident. I will have a strict, zero tolerance policy for misconduct, misogyny, or harassment of any kind in my administration. I firmly believe that excellent governance can only come through a culture of respect and from a position where people feel safe. As your Mayor, I will insist on the highest ethical standards for myself, the City Council, and San Leandro city employees. No one should ever be afraid to speak out.

It’s not just about good governance, it’s about being a good human. https://youtube.com/shorts/JUN7UyJtCqE?feature=share

Mayor Juan Gonzalez and the men who carry water for his lack of leadership couldn’t step up. James Maes, the other candidate for Mayor, just did.

The current Mayor has repeatedly declined to publicly lay out his plan for rebuilding trust at City Hall. I’ve never asked him to relitigate investigations. I’m asking him to lead. He can’t even read aloud the paragraph in the City Council Handbook on safety that everyone agreed to.

Instead he calls me — and any woman asking about the plan going forward, regardless of how kindly they request clarification — “The Angry Women of District 5.” That’s what Trump does to women who ask questions.

Juan’s friends say I have my pitchfork and torch out for him. I don’t. I just have standards that aren’t on the floor.

I know that being Mayor of our town is a really complicated job. I also know the current Mayor and his friends like to play both sides of that. His supporters say, “Mayor Juan can’t take sides.” But I have listened to the Mayor’s own words. On June 1st at the City Council meeting the Mayor himself said, “So let me be clear, I will be bringing this item, through the powers that the charter gives me, I will be putting it, working with the City Manager, on the agenda…” 1:44:30

He was talking about funding an engineering study for Lake Chabot Road. The point isn't the road. The point is that he has publicly demonstrated he knows how to use the authority of his office to elevate an issue when he believes it matters. I've been asking him to do the same for workplace safety.

The current Mayor does have priorities. As a woman, I’m just not one of them. He would rather stand in the middle of a group of young girls to promote his brand of being a “nice guy,” than sit down with the women who have the capacity to help him.

Good men are listening. Good men are recognizing that we don’t need City Hall run like a business - lacking values, integrity, and spine. We need it run like a healthy community institution where our leaders feel safe to work on really hard problems, where people aren’t worried about the photo op because their actions sing the song of their decency.

I voted for Juan Gonzalez once because I believed in the kind of leader he said he would be. I trusted him because I had seen his actions in the community.

Well, I’m still paying attention to his actions, and I refuse to vote a second time for a man who won't even recognize my humanity."

ISO: Affordable hair salon for wavy/curly hair

Hi all, I sadly had to "break up" with the hair stylist I've been going to for a while and have been looking for a new one. I have thick, fine, wavy/curly hair and have had a few bad experiences with stylists who don't know how to cut it so I've been apprehensive about seeing someone new. Can anyone give me recommendations of a salon/stylist who can work with this type of hair and doesn't cost an arm and a leg? Thank you in advance!

Reasonable priced kid haircuts in SL or nearby

Hi all, any recs on hair salons or a barber who cut kids hair in the area? We had a not so great experience at Great Clips at their E14 location.

Now looking for a place that welcomes kids to do a cleanup/fix! Thank you.

Hey gardeners: save some seeds this year for the main library's seed library?

The main library has an adorable little seed library where you can take and leave little packets of seeds for planting. But it's always empty :(

I've put seeds from my plants in there a couple times and they're always gone by the next time I check.

Maybe not enough folks know about it?
