I’m applying for the M.Sc. Mechanical Engineering / Aerospace Engineering at TU Darmstadt and I’m taking the material entrance examination tomorrow, August 20.

The university lists Technical Mechanics, Thermodynamics & Heat/Mass Transfer, Machine Elements & Mechatronics, Control Engineering, Measurement/Sensors & Statistics, Numerical Methods, and Fluid Mechanics among the relevant areas.

For anyone who has taken this entrance exam in a previous intake: what was your experience with the difficulty, topic distribution, and level of preparation required?

Are there particular fundamental topics or areas within these subjects that you would recommend revising at the last minute?

I’m not looking for actual exam questions or anything confidential—just genuine preparation advice from previous applicants/students.

I have an architecture background who wants to learn urban design/planning. However, this program doesn’t have design classes based on my research. It’s more management and policy-making? Anyone from this program can say that it’s worth taking??

My application started on 24 june and my docs received on 8 july, current status is Antrag im Fachbereich, it's been more than 5 weeks, didn't get any update

What are my chances?

Hey everyone,

I applied for the MSc Mechanics (admission unrestricted) at TU Darmstadt for Winter Semester 2026/27. Submitted everything in early June, and my application status on TUCaN shows "Antrag im Fachbereich" — meaning it's been received by the department (June 26).

It's now been around 7 weeks since the department received it and I still haven't heard back. I know it's an unrestricted programme so there's no seat competition, but I'm getting a bit anxious given the visa timelines involved as an international applicant.

A few questions for anyone who's been through this:

1. How long did TU Darmstadt take to send a decision for MSc Mechanics? Did it come via TUCaN or email?
2. Did "Antrag im Fachbereich" stay like that until the final decision, or did the status change in between?
3. For those who applied with a non-traditional background (e.g. Automation, Mechatronics, Robotics) — did the examination board ask for any additional documents for the equivalency check?
4. Any idea when the last batch of decisions typically goes out before the October 1 semester start?

Background: I'm from India, B.Tech in Automation & Robotics, CGPA 8.06, IELTS 7.5, two IEEE publications. The unrestricted nature of the programme gives me some hope but the waiting is rough especially with visa processing deadlines looming.

Would really appreciate any insight from people who've been through the TU Darmstadt Mechanics admissions process!

Can anyone please tell me if it is possible to get into a master's program at top German universities in robotics, automation, and AI with a GPA of 3.01 (4 is best) and a German equivalent of around 2.48?

I have a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and strong research experience, including a paper in a reputable conference.

I am targeting TU Darmstadt Mechatronics, Uni of Bonn Mobile Robotics, RWTH Aachen Automation Engineering, TU Dortmund Automation and Robotics, Leibniz Uni Hannover AI-Driven Mechatronics and Robotics, KIT CDS, and University of Stuttgart Autonomous Systems.

Can anyone please guide me in preparing the application forward?

Has anyone put an appeal after getting rejected from the course as they mentioned that credits are not sufficient but all my subjects are matching with what they need
