Texas Is Reshaping America’s Innovation Economy
Texas is becoming more influential in America’s innovation economy as its technology base expands beyond software into semiconductor design, advanced manufacturing and high-speed networking infrastructure. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated the state’s population at 31,709,821 as of July 1, 2025, providing companies with access to one of the country’s largest and fastest-growing labor and consumer markets. Recently announced projects include Arm’s planned $71 million Austin expansion, expected to create more than 320 jobs, and Applied Optoelectronics’ planned manufacturing expansion in Sugar Land, representing more than $279 million in investment and an expected 500 jobs. Texas has not replaced Silicon Valley, but these projects show that the state is increasingly supporting the research, production and infrastructure behind modern technology.
