Scanning with DM-32

I’m going back and forth on if I should get a DM-32 or Uniden Bearcat BC125AT. I don’t really want this for transmitting but just to hear local frequencies and both of these are more entry level. I know the Uniden is a scanner only and is better at receiving, but the DM-32 can pick up DMR. I’m wondering if the scanning feature on the Uniden is worth getting over the DM-32 to hear local frequencies. Has anyone compared these two and seen differences in reception range or ease of use?

Uniden Running At High Temps

So I have a Uniden R8W and I know these things and electronics in general that are high processing power (in this case the DSP inside of the units) but I also noticed that the unit gets extremely hot even more than 110°F sometimes I’ll notice which is a rough estimate and I’m wondering if this is normal. It’s usually towards the back end where the actual radar horn is.

Is this normal considering how much these things run should I put some extra air into it? Do you also experience this?

Yukon wiretap for Uniden R8W is a nightmare

I have a R8W. All was good but I just very recently got a Yukon. Well apparently they don’t do the normal every other vehicle I’ve ever seen 12v “cigarette lighter” plug in the front. It’s only USB. No big deal, right, cause I was just gonna mirror tap. So my good friend ChatGPT is showing me exactly what I need to do. All goes well until I turn the vehicle off. The detector stays on. That’s not what I was going for for a couple obvious reasons.
So CGPT says hey, there’s this harness the you can get from Gen5. It’s plug and play. Plugs directly into the mirror harness and then already comes with the phone power wire needed for my detector. Ordered! Wait 5 days. It’s here. Without delay I’m out plugging in. Plugs right into the mirror and waitttt! The phone plug visibly and I can feel does not go into said detector. The original power cord(12v) goes in like butter. Gen5 harness one is a no go. Ordered it vehicle specific “for radar detectors that use “J-11 phone plug” to power them but does not list the individual brands.
WTF!! First off. Second, can someone please point me to what harness I actually need to get this right! It’s been a Fn nightmare! I’m at the point I’m just gonna get the 12V “extension cord and just run it from the back of my vehicle to the front and just need to unplug it everytime so it’s not powered on 24hrs a day. Frustrated asf!
