I miss the outdated UI, the unhinged posts, the background pictures that came straight from 2015 and the overall vibes. I barely posted on it back then but the only times I did, I received a lot of dms from different people (well mostly horny pedo dudes lol). But I do recall having a few meaningful conversations with people on there.

One of them was this guy. I was having a hard crush on one of my cousins at the time and made a post about it. I don't exactly remember what I wrote though. Then he privately messaged me asking if I would make a move on it. I don't remember my answer. He said that he had a crush on one of his cousins too. But it was a long time ago.

We talked about the crush I had on my cousin. He suggested me to do a few things to attract my cousin's attention but I was too shy. At some point we started talking about our lives.

He said he was a financial advisor. Had a big tattoo. He sent me a picture of a painting he was making at the time, saying he had taken up this hobby recently.

We talked a lot. And I really did have fun. I hope he did too.

This only went on for like a week before he ghosted me. I was devastated and in denial. Later I made another post with the same content about crushing on my cousin, expecting that he would message me back. Or at least someone like him. It was fruitless. So I completely gave up on it.

Talking to him made me feel good, especially considering I had no friends then. But I was also scared. Because I was 14 and he was like 30 at the time. Nevertheless it was really special, so special that this memory still visits me years later. I guess you could say that I miss him.

I yearn for such a meaningful connection again. The men I've talked to on the internet always ask for nudes or are still immature.

Now this app is taken down. I have tried some alternatives but they don't really have the same vibes as the original one. They also feel... pretentious. I guess we will never come close to experiencing the old app.

So RIP, Whisper! Thanks for the good memories.

so that would explain why there's no moderation whatsoever of the constant racism and pro-genocide sentiment on there. plus he didn't actually develop the software, that was an indian dev who goes by Mr Siddharth & released the original open-source. wheeeee 🤪

I'm currently making a new app that's similar to omegle, but vastly refined in terms of capabilities, UI, and branding.

While I was looking for a name I ended up settling somewhere around whisper then memories came rushing in and I remembered I was a user of this app before, and just read what happened to it.

I'm wondering since they are somewhat related, being able to match completely anonymously with strangers (though mine will be fully encrypted), if there's an overlap between people who use this service and services like omegle.

Wondering if it'd actually help having my app named similar to this service given the strong following and possibly similar targeting.

I too like so many of you miss that app. It was an odd time where the anonymity actually led to some decent friendships, even for just a moment. Also an interesting encounter but that’s a story for another day! Has anyone found a decent replacement?

You guys wouldn’t be so attached to it. Technically Twitter is the same thing as whisper and nobody cares about it lol

Whisper secrets and hush aren't that good, they're rated literally 1.1 star over here.

Why did the founder decide to shut down whisper? 🙄
