As someone getting into action sports, i think the League is a good idea

First post on this sub, i missed X Games SAC but im watching the livestreams late (no spoilers pls lol) but i first got into this area from the Winter Olympics where i found out about Aspen and now the summer League.

Whilst I havent picked a team yet Its been interesting to see how the leaderboard develops and it adds an extra layer to the X Games. It will also help the League to grow by using the same model as NFL, NBA etc. I feel i wouldnt get in to action sports if the league didnt exist.

I know from comments on a YT video before that the league is unpopular idea before the draft time so i found that quite interesting, do you guys prefer riders representing themselves? or has your opinion changed since we actually see the league in action?

Yes i know its corporate slop the gambling and crypto adverts in x games is really bad Its easy to see through but atleast the league benefits the fans.

Meet & greets in SAC

The tickets mentioned there would be meet and greets but I didn't see any official ones. The only time I met an athlete was when I would run into one after an event. Was I missing something or did they actually not have official meet and greets?

I've been riding BMX for 15 years and this was my first time attending x-games in Sacramento! I had a great experience but here's what I think.

Overall, I had a great time. Tickets were cheap, it was great meeting riders, good seeing friends in the BMX community come together, etc.

I did not see the music portion, but I thought that was a brilliant idea to get more people to come which normally wouldn't be at x-games.

Here are some things I think x-games Sac should improve on:

1. There was no shade.

You're basically baking in the sun if you watch any of the events. It was hard to stay engaged and it tired me out a lot.

I think the event can benefit from more umbrellas, tents, etc. scattered around. I definitely think it's possible to position them so you're not entirely blocking views as well.

The only time I was fortunate to take advantage of the shade was during the evening for Men's BMX dirt due to the massive tree in the back area.

2. There's not much to really do in between the events.

I went with a group of friends, so it was easy to hang out and kill time. But I think it would be nice if they had more things to keep people engaged throughout the day. For example, I have no idea what I'd be doing in between the events if I was alone. I mean you can obviously grab a drink or food but that's basically it.

The No Cap soda tent had a beer pong table set up which i thought would be really fun but I never played because I noticed there was never really shade where it was set up.

Overall, I think the event had things to "watch" but nothing for people to "do". Simple games scattered around (like the beer pong) example would have been nice.

3. You can't see much of the event.

No bleachers is crazy. Come to think of it, there really wasn't anywhere to sit in the entire venue.

I think the event would benefit from more strategically placed screens as well.

4. Crowd engagement sucked.

MC's need to do better and be more audible. Some riders had radio silence during their runs and others had cheering throughout their runs.

It's the MC's job to make sure there is cheering for everyone.

They had music to fill in gaps but I don't think they did a good job timing it or it wasn't audible.

X Games is dead

I just watched the first 5 minutes of the Men’s Skate Street Full Competition. It opened up with a shot of the competition area and I immediately thought “that’s it?!”

Then I saw drone shots of the crowd. Good lord, none of those people can see shit. What a shame. Bleachers could have done wonders for ticket buyers.

Then shortly after that, all the commentators sound terrible. The host is carrying, the analyst I can barely hear, then the sideline reporter is trying to talk and she keeps getting spoken over.

Anyways, I miss the old X Games. I feel bad for ticket buyers even more. I wish we could go back in time and cherish it more while we had it.

X Games Sacramento was Disappointing

Flew from out of state to attend X Games Sacramento. My husband and I are huge BMX fans and attend many BMX events. We also both grew up watching the X Games events on tv every year.

This event felt like a spectator mess. The viewing situation was terrible. There was no official spectator seating and being able to see the course from the standing crowd was nearly impossible. And that was even with standing near the “front”. For skateboard park, we were right in the front, but the VIP crowd was in an additional crowd in front and it was so hard to spectate. The only events you could truly spectate were FMX and dirt jumps since they were in the air.

Aside from just the spectator situation, there was no where to sit down at all. No tables to eat purchased food, no benches, nothing. People all around were sitting on the bare cement to rest from standing for all of the events.

The weather was decent overall for it being June in Sac, but it was still very warm overall (nothing that can be done about that). The issue here is that the vendors were running out of water and there was nowhere to refill water bottles. We went to purchase water and were told they were out, along with other vendors.

The last event of the day was the triple jumps. Everyone was waiting (standing) around for about an hour before it started. Then it officially started another 30 mins past when it was supposed to. When it finally got started, they did 2 runs and then cut to a “competition break” for almost 10 minutes. This pattern of 2 runs and then commercial went on for the rest of the event. At this point, we had been standing and walking around the venue for almost 9 hours (again, no sitting areas) and were a little fed up.

X Games needs to host their events at venues that can adequately seat the crowd they attract to their events. Not even just for sitting but actually being able to watch the event the people pay for. The fact that the park course, skatepark, and even the vert ramps were difficult to watch is crazy considering that is what the event is for.

Attached is a photo of my view from BMX park.

Edit:

FMX best trick: when spectating this event, the spectator area was directly facing the sun. It was difficult to spectate because on each run, the sun was blinding the crowd looking up.

The venue did have an entire stadium with bleacher seating. This was the area for the music part of the event (not sure why x games has a music festival) . I feel like it would’ve made much more sense to have the park, street, and vert events to be held in the arena where everyone could actually see what’s happening.

Take on x games, the good and bad.

Here's my take on the current x games, as a mid thirties non skateboarder, but watching since like the late 90s, since there's so many negative opinions going around, which to be fair are sometimes justified.

Starting with the good because everything is so negative around here.

The athletes are better than ever, I'm not gonna name them all but honestly these kids are better than the old time favorites from the tony hawk and Dave mira days.

The ease to watch is generally fine. To watch on Roku Channel for free in the states is pretty easy and free. If you miss it the events are posted on YouTube about 24 hours later both full event and highlights.

Their website and socials are super active and up to date. They have all the info that you need to watch. Instagram stories are in the moment and up to date.

Now the negative..... I'll try to go easy since I feel like I'm enjoying the x games the past couple years more than most people here.

Advertising. Their not reaching and fully communicating the games to their demo audience. For some reason a bunch people don't now that the games are on and how to watch. This point is definitely a short coming o. The xgames, but there is some accountability on you fans trying to watch.

The commentary/down time between events. The fan interviews about nostalgia facts are super cringe. The creating hype that's not there is cringe. They should be really highlighting these athletes more and talking less about tony hawks 900.

The moon pay sponsorship. To be so closely connect and paying out crypto to kids is just weird.

They're really doing a disservice to the athletes.

Actually making it fun to attend the games and getting fans there. I haven't been to the x games but there's a clear difference to today's games and 20 years ago. Which is crazy because the athletes are just so good.

The occasional technical difficulties during the stream is a little frustrating.

So honestly I'd say it's the best time ever to watch incredible athletes from the comfort of your home ever. It can be done way better for sure, but if you pay attention it's easy free and totally fine.

But x games has to get it together to get these athletes names out there both for the fans and for the athletes.

As for the team thing..... It seems silly to me, but I'll give it a chance.

Im trying to be optimist and excited but there's definitely a different feeling to the games which is a shame, but I think can be turned around.

With tech and social media where it's at these games should be huge.

XGames are infuriating

I realized that the event started yesterday. I wanted to watch the BMX Park VoD but can't find a single place to watch it. The lack of clarity on the schedule and where to watch is horrendous every single time the X Games rolls around.

On top of that, they slapped the first, second, and third place winners on the front page, so it spoiled me before I even watched the event.

I'm trying my best to support this organization, but they make it extremely difficult.

Where are all the events?

So is there like no events anymore? Where is the moto x quarter pipe and all of the mega ramp events? Did they just completely quit having those?

Is it just me who feels this?

I used to take time of work for x games every year. What happened to xgames but now the whole event is a shitty shell of itself.

What is up with the YouTube streams?

It’s almost unwatchable, half of it had no sound then it was loud blaring music that you couldn’t hear anything over, it cuts to interviews of riders with no audio from it and it’s not scotty Cranmer doing the bmx commentary despite him being there doing the commentary for bmx I’m so confused. It’s awful

Anybody with staff connections at XGames Sacramento? Let’s make this guy and his friend doing a “Roman Salute” on national TV famous- or at the very least banned from future XGames events! (Bottom left in the Kings jersey)
