Advice Wanted: Transfer of Care to Different Psychiatrist
Recently prescribed Dexamfetamine - titrated up to 10mg in the morning/5mg in the afternoon. Instructions were to only dose on weekdays, and to increase the afternoon dose to 10mg when needed.
I’m comfortable with how I’ve managed behaviours, work/social environments, and sleep to accommodate having ADHD thus far.
I’ve sought medication to assist with what I can’t control - head noise, internal dialogue, emotional regulation, ruminating, and maladaptive daydreaming.
Two weeks at this dosage (after three weeks of titration) and those latter symptoms remain unchanged. Whilst I understand they are likely to persist to some degree, I was hoping the medication would assist in making them manageable. (Are expectations too high?) I’m also unable to sleep if the afternoon dose is taken after 1pm.
My next psychiatrist appointment is two months away. I haven’t had luck asking for earlier appointments and my appointments have consistently been at three-month intervals.
Is asking my current psychiatrist to facilitate a ‘transfer of care’ to a psychiatrist who has earlier availability unusual? I’d find value in a review of dosage/type of medication and move to being medicated on weekends. I’m concerned it would be unproductive waiting until end July for this to happen.
