VAR in the Cymru Premier

Thought some would be interested to know we had a VAR trial at Barry's friendly with Goytre tonight.

It sucks. Quite frankly.

Seemed as if the linesmen weren't ever flagging offside and the ref waited to be told by VAR to give offside, then the linesmen would flag.

Delayed kickoffs after goals while we all just watched the ref hold his finger to his ear, only to eventually give the goal anyway.

From what I understand, things can't be checked and cleared whilst play is going on. There was a soft shout for a penalty at one point, and then quite some time before the ball went out of play. Then when the ball did go out, we ended up an age waiting whilst VAR reviewed it and then eventually cleared it.

The only possibile saving grace is that as it was a trial they were deliberately overusing it to get used to the tech. I really hope that's the case as it does ruin the experience for the fans

Cymru Football TV launched

https://faw.cymru/news/cymru-football-tv-launched/

The Football Association of Wales is excited to unveil Cymru Football TV, the new home for Welsh football streaming.

The subscription service will be the only place to watch all matches from the Novira Cymru Premier live, providing greater access to the top-flight of Welsh men’s domestic football than ever before.

Subscribing to the platform will also provide supporters with access to other selected domestic live fixtures, Cymru national team age-group matches and FAW documentaries. Domestic cup draws will be available to watch for free, while more content will be announced in the coming weeks.

The first live matches on Cymru Football TV will be the UEFA Conference League first qualifying round ties involving Caernarfon Town, Connah’s Quay Nomads and Penybont in the week commencing Monday 6 July.

Supporters can purchase a Cymru Football TV season pass for £99.99, or a monthly pass for £12.99. Passes for individual matches can be bought for £8.99.

The FAW is pleased to provide supporters with the option to sign up for a 14-day free trial on the platform, with this offer available to supporters until 23:59 BST on Sunday 12 July – allowing free access to selected European fixtures, Cymru Cup matches and action from the men’s Welsh Cup First Qualifying Round.

In addition to Cymru Football TV, a new free-to-air broadcast deal for the Novira Cymru Premier will be announced in due course.

Jack Sharp, FAW Head of Domestic Leagues, commented: “The launch of Cymru Football TV represents a significant step forward for the future of the Cymru Premier and our wider domestic competitions.

“Moving from 34 broadcasted matches per season to coverage of every Cymru Premier fixture fundamentally transforms the ability of the FAW and its clubs to expand their reach, visibility, and engagement. This will be complemented by the strongest ever free-to-air offering in the history of Welsh football, details of which will be announced shortly.

“As structural changes are introduced across the Cymru Premier, it remains essential that supporters continue to have access to their clubs. While the platform is launching with modest beginnings, its long-term development will be guided by audience growth and supporter feedback, with increased reinvestment as the platform succeeds. I am also pleased to highlight that a significant redistribution model is built into the platform, ensuring that clubs directly benefit from their own supporters buying subscription packages.

“Considerable work and investment from the FAW has gone into delivering this project, while I would like to thank the team at Two Circles for their support throughout the process. We hope the platform will provide both long-standing and new supporters with a central hub for domestic football as the only place to watch all Cymru Premier matches live. In time, the platform will also enable us to assess and enhance coverage across our other competitions which we will be trialling this season.”

Edit

It's worth noting that teams are getting 70% of the fees. When signing up, you apparently select your team, and 70% of your subscription fee will go to your club
