Samsung HW-Q800F (no rears) vs Hisense AX5140Q (with rear surrounds) - which is the better setup overall?

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to decide between two soundbar setups and I keep going back and forth, so I’d love some real-world opinions from people who’ve actually used either system.

The two options I’m looking at are:

  • Samsung HW-Q800F ($465) (soundbar + sub only, no rear speakers)
  • Hisense AX5140Q($350) (5.1.4 system with sub + dedicated rear surround speakers)

My dilemma is basically this:

On one hand, the Samsung seems to have better overall sound quality, clearer tuning, and stronger performance from the main bar/sub system. But it doesn’t come with rear speakers in this setup, and I’m not planning to add them right away.

On the other hand, the Hisense has full rear surround speakers included, so I’d get a more “true surround” experience out of the box. But from what I’ve read, the overall sound quality (clarity, tuning, bass control, etc.) isn’t quite on the same level as the Samsung.

So my question is:

Is it better to have a higher-quality soundbar with no real rear surrounds, or a slightly lower-quality system that actually has dedicated rear speakers and full surround sound?

I mostly watch shows on the popular streaming services, movies, and am a big sports fan too. Room is a medium-sized living room with the couch fairly close to the TV. Couch is not directly against the wall, but I would have to put the rear speakers roughly 8 feet diagonally from the center of the couch (so behind and outside the width of the couch on both sides).

Would love to hear:

  • If rear speakers actually make a big difference in day-to-day viewing
  • If the Samsung still “feels” immersive without them
  • Or if the Hisense surround effect makes up for the weaker bar

Thanks in advance - I’m really stuck between “better sound” vs “better surround experience.”
