It seems like a lot of you don’t know who can and can’t be sent down to the minors. Let’s review the rules

I’m getting really sick of people saying impossible things like “send Chris sale to the minors” so let’s go over this

I’m going to assume you know the difference between the 40 man and 26 man rosters. I hope I’m not wrong for assuming this

A player, when called up has 3 options. If the option is exercised, he can be removed from the 26 man and sent back down and back up freely during that season. He has to stay a minimum 10 days in the minors though

After he has no more options, they must remove him from the 40 man and place him on waivers before sending him to the minors if he clears waivers. If another team picks him up, they get him and pay his contract

Now here’s the important part that a ton of you guys don’t understand. A veteran player with 5 or more years of service time can refuse a minor league assignment. Meaning if you try he’ll just be like “fuck that shit, I’m not riding a bus and eating pb and j. I’m a free agent now” and you no longer have that player and you still pay him

DFA means the player has been removed from the 40 man and the team has three days (I might be wrong on time) to trade or release him. Then he can be sent to the minors

Next time I see someone say “send Austin Riley down” or “send Kim down” I’m just going to link this to you

Thank you for your time because the amount of people who don’t know the rules drives me nuts

I hope those of you who didn’t know this understand now
