I honestly hope they change this one death scene in the show

⚠️ SPOILERS FOR DEATHLY HALLOWS ⚠️

I just finished listening to the graphic audio version of Deathly Hallows and honestly… Hedwig’s death devastated me more than almost any other death in the series.

Deeper than Dumbledore. Deeper than Dobby. I know that sounds dramatic, but something about it just destroyed me.

I understand the symbolic point of it. Harry losing Hedwig represents the end of childhood, losing innocence, becoming isolated, etc. I get it.

But the actual way it happens feels so unnecessarily cruel.

She dies trapped in a cage during the escape from Privet Drive. Right before that, she’s upset with Harry because he hasn’t let her out. When he’s showing her the house and his old cupboard bedroom, she literally has her head tucked under her wing ignoring him because she’s mad. Then during the flight he basically shoves the cage between his legs while escaping and she dies there.

Hearing her little squeaks in the graphic audio genuinely killed me.

I think this is honestly the ONE thing I’d be okay with the show changing from the books.

Not even because I “can’t handle sad things,” but because her death feels so undignified compared to literally everyone else’s.

Honestly, I’d be completely fine if the show came up with some excuse for Harry sending her away for safety before they go on the run. Maybe to Tonks’ parents or somewhere protected. And before anyone says “well why wouldn’t he use her then?” — he wouldn’t. Hedwig is way too recognizable and vulnerable once the Ministry falls. It would honestly make sense for Harry to intentionally keep her hidden.

They wouldn’t even need to show her again after that. Just imply she’s safe somewhere.

I know this wouldn’t happen until like… 10 years from now at the pace this show is going 😭 but it’s genuinely the one change from the books I’d support
