Lawyer dragged his feet, did nothing, did not communicate, and is now holding me up for more money.

Location: New York

Last year, I asked a lawyer I had on retainer to draft up some communications on my behalf.

He dragged his feet, did not communicate at all, and did nothing for about six months.

After that, I emailed him the same instructions, clearly written.

By this point, I was pretty frustrated, so I asked him to let me know if he was unable or unwilling to perform the duties that I had requested.

He finally got back to me two months later saying that he was unwilling because my retainer only covered the previous year.

The only reason this has dragged on into the next year is because of his procrastination!

His excuse was that he was "really busy."

This guy took a lot of my money and did nothing. Thousands, in fact.

Do I have any recourse for this?

Does this happen a lot? I don't have much experience with the law.

If I end up in court, blaming my lawyer is not an excuse, right?

This issue has already bankrupted me, and now I'm probably going to have to pay another lawyer and start over again!
