Very Unsure and Depressed Thinking About This

Back in February, I had a sharp pain on my right side. Kind of felt like a pin prick, but deep. I was concerned it was appendix. Started feeling soreness on my right side and eventually went to ER. Diagnosed me with fatty liver based on Ultrasound. Everything else seemed fine (gallbladder, kidneys, etc.)

I immediately changed my diet to a low fat diet and cut weight. I am down about 25lbs in about 14 weeks.

Met with a Gastro. They weren’t concerned with fatty liver as I was making changes and it wasn’t to a point where there was concern yet. I still wasn’t understanding why I had discomfort and achy under my right rib and around to my back.

Had a FibroScan for liver. Came back high. Just need to follow up in 4-6 months, but weight drop and low fat diet and I’m already on my way to correcting this.

Finally got a CT scan 5 weeks later after insurance approval battle. No major or minor findings that would cause concern. Still having mild pain and discomfort. We decided to do more imaging.

Scheduled HIDA scan. EF % is 12.

Gastro recommends I talk to surgeon.

I talked to surgeon last Thursday. She agreed that based on the imaging and results, gallbladder should come out. Mentally prepared myself, we scheduled a date for next Tuesday.

Friday, I get a call from my Gastro’s office with the main doctor who reviewed my HIDA scan and imaging and didn’t say it was necessary to move forward at this point to schedule surgery. He said he has had some patients who have had a HIDA scan and reevaluated 3-6 months later and have seen this number improve. Also recommended I get an upper endoscopy to confirm it isn’t some other issue. Prior to this conversation, I was 95% sure the gallbladder removal would fix my problems, but this guy calls me and now I feel like only 75% which while still high, makes me less confident getting an organ out if I don’t need to right away.

Over the weekend, I felt better than I have in months for 3 straight days. No issues.

Today, they called to confirm scheduling. I ended up postponing due to feeling better and wanting to get a clearer understanding from the 3rd doctor I spoke to.

Go figure, around 3pm today, I start dealing with a pain and on my right side in the same area that is stronger than I have experienced before and here I am just dealing with it.

I feel unsure with everything. This all points to gallbladder, but I am hesitant to just go get it out and find that I have a different issue and have this taken out for no reason.

I’m at a loss and feel like the people who should be more confident and guiding me are giving mixed signals.

I am mentally exhausted from this whole process and don’t know where to turn at this point.
