Do you like the new video?

Discuss what worked for you and what didn’t.

Me: I loved it. Yes , the two big contentions are AI could of course be better, but the last shots of Mick are fantastic. The other contention is the “Be young, have fun, drink Pepsi” vibe, but music videos are designed for that, so…

I didn’t care much for the drum line but that’s a quibble. I’m guessing The Rolling Stones *brand* will go on for a long time, like ABBA and AI generated concert events will become a thing.

But I like the single a LOT more thanks to the video, Mick’s vocals are fantastic, and Ron’s leads are strong.

So it’s ugly? Grotesque? Weird? *Fantastic*. Stone album covers are always at their best when they’re controversial/offensive.

Beggars Banquet - the original art - a filthy, graffiti-covered toilet - was so jarring for its time, the stone’s record label refused to release it. The stones fought for the cover, but ultimately relented and released a plain white invitation instead.

Sticky Fingers - At the time, most “bros” probably were weirded out by a bulging cock front and center as album art. And then the idea to unzip the pants? Why? To access the cock?? Dude.

Exile - Literally, circus freaks all over the place. Not exactly Loggins/Messina or Carpenters territory.

GHS - the mesh face art is weird enough, but consider the other cover - literally a boiling cauldron of soup with a decapitated goat’s head floating in it.

IORR - Based on Nazi artwork.

Some Girls - more funny than jarring, but depicting the band as transvestites (as they did with the HYSYMBSITS single cover)

Undercover- weird naked woman front and center. I was 12 when this came out and remember how provocative it seemed.

Then consider the boring album covers - SW, VL, B2B, ABB, B&L.

For me? Foreign Tongues is a welcome return to weird and artsy. I hope it reflects the music!!!
