Looking at moving to Gladstone for work, thoughts?

Hi folks

Currently in New Zealand and looking at a Tertiary education role that's basically what I'm doing here plus more pay.

I have a 2 year old and a 3 year old and I'm wondering what it's like having small kids there? Also if anyone has any idea what the management culture is at CQ?

Sickness advice please

Hi folks

Currently on my first run through of a green protocol cycle, I'd finished the first 3 max strength weeks, was halfway through week 2 of the second strength block and now I've been laid low by a right doozy of a flu.

I figure it'll be a good few days before I should train again, when I get back I'm wondering if I should:

1- pick up where I left off

2-restart max strength block number 2

3- just jump into the SE block

Any thoughts? Long term it doesn't matter I know, I'm just wondering which one will likely beat me up the least

Base building review

Background: 35m, 103kg.

Competed in judo as a youth at national level, got into weightlifting in my mid 20s, set my pb of raw bench 160kg, Squat 255kg at 28.

Nowadays a keen backcountry hunter (new zealand) and father of 2 toddlers.

I had bought tactical barbell and the conditioning book ages ago, I had been doing a bodyweight program from the bioneer and was missing the gym when I remembered I had them and decided to give it a go.

The se circuit: Kettlebell 180s, Squat, rows, bench, Romanian deadlift, bench leg raises.

Cardio: primarily rucking on incline treadmill.

Hic: fast runs.

Strength: just linear, following fighter template.

Thoughts:

Really well structured. Even week I'd wonder if I was going to be able to manage the se circuit with the new reps and somehow I'd do it. The cardio was a decent volume while feeling recoverable.

Finding time around two kids, work and a wife is tough, but this left time to have an actual life too.

Results (unobjective)

My overnight resting heart rate went from 55 to 49

5k run time went from 33mins to 29 mins 55

No loss of strength on the bench, maintained 110kg 5x5 or squat at 140kg 5x5 after se cycle.

Results (objective)

My weight stayed the same but I'm leaner I think, correlated by my wife.

I'm recovering faster from workouts and have more gas in the tank.

I feel like I need less rest between sets due to said recovery.

Final thoughts:

I was looking for a plan that had more strength than most plans for hiker/hunters. I find they're lacking for developing the strength to carry deer out over the hills.

Meanwhile the likes of 531 were too rough on me, I felt like they took too much time, didn't leave enough space for cardio and ultimately just left me feeling sore, this looked like it will thread the needle.

All in all very worthwhile. Based on my hobby being alpine hunting I'm going to have a week off while I go on holiday then I intend to continue on using green protocol, as endurance and strength are my priorities, in that order. I guess I'll do a cycle of that then write up my thoughts on it.
