Developer Diary 1 - Orange Invasion "The Belgians"
Hey there and welcome to the first real dev diary of my mod, Orange Invasion: Dawn of the Rijk.
For those who don't know, Orange Invasion is an alt history mod, where nobody but the Dutch won the Great War. And perhaps the most unique aspect of this mod, is the fact that it's not just an alt history mod, it's also an Ongezellig one where the characters are in it, for the better and for the worst.
But while it is as such, it doesn't mean that nations without Ongezellig content wont have stuff. As such, Belgium got a rework.
I - Starting Situation
For a small summary of the Belgian lore:
During the Great War the Dutch under Mymy Schoppenboer joined the Central powers, and with them occupied Belgium. While the Dutch were winning their political stability would shift in the 1920's, as the Dutch populace started to oppose the constant wars and conflicts that destroyed the Dutch economy and moral. With a final blow and a final fight the Remnants of the Belgian army and resistance, rose up taking over most of Wallonia and even the North of France (that was occupied by the Dutch as well), with this and the Frisian revolt Mymy tried to declare Martial Law, but was removed by the military right after trying.
The new government decided to have a treaty with Belgium, as such the Dutch would keep Flanders, while the Belgians kept Wallonia.
But many fear it and many knows it, this peace is just a temporary truce.
Belgium starts named the Wallonian Junta, owning all of Wallonia and Northern France with it's capital being Liège.
Picture of a very stable nation right here
It has an army of 13 with a very few planes, but they're undersupplied and the Belgian starting manpower is barely holding on.
The government starts out as a Despotic Military Dictatorship, and as the name of it suggest it is a provisional government that will disband once Belgium is liberated
Starting national spirit wise you start out with:
-King Leopold (also cool GFX)
-Chasseurs Ardennais (same as vanilla)
-Untrustworthy Peace (makes it so you don't get any PP before the Dutch government collapses something that happens like 20 days after game start reason for it will be explained with the next idea)
-Risk of Famine (national spirit that gets worst depending on decisions that activates once you start out your political tree more later on)
-Language Barriers (same as vanilla but only a few paths will let you get rid of it)
-Scars of the Great War (same as vanilla but works differently)
II - Focus tree and mechanics Historical/Shared
The focus tree starts out with a focus getting rid of the untrustworthy peace national spirit (ofc completed trough an event), in it you have two distinct branches that form, one dedicated to make your scars of the great war spirit better. While the other one will get you more decisions regarding the famine mechanics.
Speaking of, the famine is dealt with trough decisions and bread production, said production you can change doing certain decisions you mostly unlock in the Right branch of the shared tree. It starts out after the first few events you get as Belgium starting the political branch, which is why you start with a spirit making you enable to produce PP, it's so you don't stack a bunch of it before the famine mechanics are on.
And it has a real impact on how Belgium will go, last thing you want is those debuffs at war with the Dutch.
This shared tree will end at a final focus, giving you the ability once you peace the Dutch to form Greater Belgium.
On the Left of your focus tree starts off the historical political branch, in which you have two options the true historical one giving you a buff for the war:
Or the alternate one in which you can start a Flemish uprising once the Dutch attack you, the focuses of said tree wont be done naturally (as you have the rest of the historical tree) it will be done trough decisions you can take to make the mission go faster.
On the right side of the focus tree you get the non-historical branches, with a Leopoldian Restoration, the Rexist path and the Wallonian path:
Rough things they give you (wasn't able to add more screenshots saddly):
-Leopold (More Stability and War support)
-Degrelle (Political Power, industry Defense/Attack bonuses)
-Wallonia (Industrial Bonuses, a France gurantee if you're fast enough)
Of course other minor things were added, but i have ran out of images to add. So if you want to learn more or even help in the project, comment your question down below and join our server:
