Pros & Cons of Increasing SOM: Managing Soil Health vs. Vine Vigor?

I am highly enthusiastic about soil health, but how do you increase Soil Organic Matter (SOM) without triggering excessive vegetative growth and shading your grapes as well as potentially altering the juice chemistry? Anyone with advice or experience?

Infiltration test

Hi all so have just done a very crude water infiltration test using an old tin can. Diameter and length of tin are in the photo. First test took 31sec to drain the whole tin. Second test took 49sec and the third test took 66secs. With my basic maths the tin holds a volume of around 350ml of water.

So now how do I calculate my infiltration rate based on that information?

Thank you for the help.

Edit: Google ai says 5753mm/hr is that even possible?

Brix Test: home grown vs store bought

Image one reading is home grown picked two minutes before running this test. Second image is store bought, labelled freshly picked, today. Image three is Google search for results.

Man homegrown is tastier, more nutrient dense and better for our health. Why is the standard of what we buy from the store set lower?

Sorry a little rant.

What’s happening with my apple tree?

So this an Elstar variety, should I be concerned about what’s going on or just let it be? This is in it second year since planting.

Dead or can I save it?

Hello all, first time grower of blueberries, but longtime lover of the fruit, so both picture are in the same pot, first image the bush flowered was looking healthy and now looks like this, second picture is a different variety, looks healthy but has not flowered. Picture one is a Bluecrop and second picture is a pink lemonade. Both plants are in a pot with raspberries.

Edit: think the sick plant looks like it has powdery mildew, is that possible?
