Question for anyone practicing in IP, patent, or trademark law in the Northeast or before the SDNY

What credentials, certifications, or educational backgrounds do you actually see making a difference for paralegals and attorneys breaking into this space? I'm talking real-world value, not just what looks good on paper, but what hiring partners and IP teams actually notice.

A few things I'm genuinely curious about:
• Are there specific certifications (USPTO registration, NALA IP specialty, paralegal certificate programs) that carry weight, or is hands-on experience the only currency that matters?
• For those without a hard STEM background, is there a realistic path into patent work, or does the technical degree requirement effectively close that door?
• Any programs, courses, or self-study resources you'd point someone toward if they were serious about building foundational IP knowledge?

I find this area of law fascinating and I'm always looking to expand what I know. Would love to hear from anyone in the field , whether you're at a boutique IP firm, BigLaw, in-house, or working the SDNY docket. Drop a comment or send me a message.

Passive NBA fan outside of the Bulls. How does Essengue potentially Boozer/Wilson’s game?

Obviously we don’t know how Essengue’s game looks like in the nba, but he had to have some kind of projection of who he could realistically be at this level.
