Seton removal only

Hi, 34 F here. I don't seem to see a lot of people say their surgeon suggests what mine does so I'm curious to ask.

I had my seton placed and partial fistulotomy a few weeks ago, I followed up with the surgeon Friday and asked questions.

He said, I'll keep the seton in for two to three months 😕 and after it's removed I may find that with the new placement of my fistula hole (he moved it from my cheek near my vagina to right next to my rectum) that I may just be fine living with it. He thinks drainage will slow enough eventually to not be noticeable as the rectum is "usually some level of moist".

He said if I really want to, down the line, we could discuss a FLAP or a LIFT if I decide I want another surgery.

He seems to give the impression he doesn't recommend doing either.

This seems odd to me but I'm willing to wait it out and see how I feel further into my healing. I'm still super uncomfortable.

Anyone else have a CRS recommending this course of treatment?

Anyone work retail?

Hi, 34 F, I had a fistulotomy and seton placement on April 27th. I don't return to work until after June 8th but I am SCARED. I am scared at the thought of having to use a multi-stall public restroom to care for my wound, seton and fistula hole. I need to use the peri bottle everytime i use the restroom and if I have a bowel movement I cannot get clean without a sitz bath and I leak stool out the fistula wound for a bit after a bm so I always need a second sitz in an hour or so.

I work in a big box retail store and I can't imagine how this will work without everyone knowing my business. We don't even have trash cans in the stalls or hooks on the doors 😐

I stock shelves and unload trucks, so manual labor, and I notice I have to change my gauze very frequently if I'm active because the sweat down there makes it useless once it's too wet.

How did other people navigate returning to work in a retail environment with no private bathrooms? I would love some reassurance 😅

Thank you

Hi, 34 F again, I was wondering if anyone didn't get diagnosed with an IBD until after their fistula diagnosis/treatment? I haven't had a colonoscopy since I was 23 and they decided from that that I must have IBS. Unfortunately my butt and gut issues never went away. From fissures, to hemorrhoids to a lot of fiber intolerance and years of stomach upset. To getting both my gallbladder and appendix removed just a year apart. I wasn't all that surprised when I developed the abcess.

I prolly need another colonoscopy but there's no way I'm doing one with this cutting seton in and my giant open wound 😳

Has anyone had to pursue further GI diagnostics post-fistula?

My father was just diagnosed with diverticulitis and my grandmother on my mom's side also had diverticulitis and ulcerative colitis so I wonder.

Hello, I'm 34F - a week post-op of a fistulotomy with seton placement. I didn't get to see the surgeon after but the seton is very tight so I think it may be a cutting one. I'm having decent pain and discomfort, more so it feels from the seton than the LARGE open wound I now have. The wound pain is stingy and usually only when I have to clean myself whereas the seton pain is deep and constant. Besides sitz baths which I have been doing frequently is there anything else that I can do for the pain? It's so hard to get comfortable.

Thank you

Hi, 34F here, I had a fistulotomy with seton placement on Monday the 27th, so three days post-op now. My wound has something called surgicel packing in it that absorbs and I was told to leave it alone. But I have to keep non woven guaze between my cheeks to catch all the drainage. Unfortunately, my gauze keeps getting stuck to my wound, I dunno if I'm not changing it often enough or what.

Could I potentially put something like aquaphor on the guaze or wound first to keep it from sticking?

I have to soak the guaze off everytime I change it right now, I dunno maybe that's normal.

I wasn't given any wound care info, I had to call to ask about the packing, so if anyone has suggestions I'm open. My wound is large and gnarly looking but not deep since it's packed.
