Tipping culture in Costa Rica

My family and I will be heading to Costa Rica soon, and I had a question about tipping etiquette there.

We traveled to Japan a few months ago, where tipping is basically a no-no, which I was totally fine with. I know there are a lot of countries where Americans are known for over-tipping or bringing tipping culture with them, and I definitely don’t want to do that if it’s not appropriate.

So I’d love to hear from locals or people who live there:
In what situations do you tip, if at all?
What’s considered a normal or respectful amount?
Are there places where tipping is actually discouraged?

Honestly, I’d be perfectly fine being told not to tip at all. I just want to be respectful and avoid accidentally being “that tourist.”

Thanks in advance!

Recommendation for Property Manager in Phoenix Metro Area

Hey everyone
I own a single family STR in the Phoenix metro area that’s currently managed by a local property management company. They manage around 7–8 other properties as well, but honestly I haven’t been very impressed with their performance so far.

I’m considering making a change and wanted to see if anyone here has recommendations for a solid Airbnb/STR property manager in the Phoenix area.

A few things that matter to me:
Strong communication and responsiveness

Good pricing/revenue management

Proactive maintenance and turnover coordination

Experience specifically with Airbnb/short term rentals

Transparent reporting/accounting

If you’ve had a great experience with someone locally, I’d really appreciate any recommendations (or even companies to avoid).

Happy to provide more details if helpful. Thanks!
