Hello,
I know these questions have been asked but I'm still struggling to find out what kind of flooring to use in my house
tl;dr - what type of flooring is best for a plank subfloor with some unevenness, and what type of prep work should I do to prepare to put floor on?
For context, I have a small 1960s house that is pretty small and the flooring currently is well over 20 years old. The main part of the house has fir subflooring with some gaps in it an no moisture barrier at all (decent level of humidity in the area if that matters).
One room is an old deck that they enclosed to add an extra room. The subfloor is the original decking and the carpet was put directly onto it (again, no barrier). The flooring here is roughly 1/4 inch lower than the main house. I was wondering if just putting down 1/4 inch plywood on top of this floor would be sufficient
I've had multiple contractors come by, some say that sheet flooring would be ideal, others say the sheet flooring will not work on this type of floor
The others thinks LVP is the way to go as it's better on uneven floors, but the first guy thinks LVP will likely unclip due to the unevenness of the floor
I'm really torn on what to do, and the install quotes I'm getting are too expensive so I want to try and do as much work as possible myself. Ideally we're trying to put one flooring in the whole house (so waterproof LVP was my plan)
Any tips on getting started on this project would be very helpful
Thanks in advance,
