As a daily ebike commuter, I hate ebike riders more than when I drove a car

I genuinely believe some of you guys never even rode a bike before and that an ebike is your first time on a two wheeled vehicle. Of course I have more daily issues from cars, but I am also having weekly occurrences and close calls with ebike riders. I don’t have any issues with actual bike riders, even the ones who are pushing their bike at 20mph are much better on the roads and sidewalks. Its e-bikes

Here are a couple:

Cruising at 5mph on the edge of the sidewalk, about 100meters ahead of a hill. Random guy comes speeding down the hill, doesn’t brake at all until within 20ft of me and nearly loses control when trying to pass me, yells “WUT DA FUQ IS YU DOIN MANG?!” because I guess I was the one who was supposed to swerve out of the way

Going on the bike lane down a main road at an intersection and the light is green. A ebike rider is coming down on the sidewalk perpendicular to me. Light is green so I go ahead, I guess the ebike riders sees no cars and doesn’t register me so decides to come off the sidewalk as soon as I pass it. He does absolutely nothing to avoid a collision, just does a genuinely autistic screech like he sounded like he was having a scared orgasm I swear to god. Being a master e-BMX Olympian, I skillfully and gracefully maneuver to avoid a collision without even letting off the throttle.

Am leaving for work in the morning, residential speed limit is 10mph. I am literally just exiting my driveway and don’t even have the motor on so I am probably going 3-5mph and the road is dark and empty, just as I pull out an emoped rider is absolutely storming down the road at least 30mph with no headlights. Busts his ass and ends up eaten up by the road but no real injuries. Cusses me out and says I almost killed him and insists I wait on the police. I wait and smugly show them my bike dashcam and my front yard camera footage. He is told that if in a car, he might have been arrested for going 20 over the speed limit.

Anyone else have frustrating interactions with fellow ebike riders or commuters?

Pro tip: On Adult Swim, you can stream Venture Bros for free “with ads” without signup. (On mobile, at least) you can skip the ads by fast forwarding!

Adult Swim is missing the movies and some episodes right now from season 1, 6, and 7, but it has pretty much every episode from seasons 2-5. Like I said, you can fast forward and skip the ads too, I would guess because the ads seem to be actually embedded into the mp4 itself rather than cutting from the video to display ads. Also, there are only two ad breaks anyways. A 10-20 sec ad at the start of each episode and a 2-3 minute ad break halfway through the episode.

Also, an unrelated thing: if you’re going to stream Venture Bros on free streaming sites, almost every site seems to have the episode order wrong. I pretty much had to watch season 1 in a totally random order but the episodic nature of the show didn’t make it too hard to follow the continuity.

Bicycles and Ebikes are legally considered vehicles in Lakeland and entitled to the roads, as long as they stick to the white line (when turning or going straight at an intersection we are entitled a spot in the main lanes as well). As far as I can tell, only I4 and the Polk Pkwy are bike free.

The only reason a bicycle shouldn’t be on the road here is because an ignorant MF in a car would kill you in a fit of road rage, if they didn’t already hit you because they were on their phone. But other than that? Share the road

I live in a town that, while not totally bike accessible in practice, has laws explicitly allowing bikes on all non-interstate roads and even bans e-bikes over a certain voltage/wattage from sidewalks and restricts them to road usage. We are definitely developing into a more bike friendly town as time passes, but we are still at a point where drivers and cyclists are forced to share the road on many major roads, and majority of the backroads.

I don’t know if people in our town are just unaware of the pro-bike laws or they don’t care, but I get honked at nearly every single day. Even when I’m riding on the shoulder or even in an actual bike lane people harass me. I have even had a car nearly 150 yards behind me see me ahead, lay on the horn nonstop and accelerate to try to intimidate me, then swerved last second. This particular incident actually happened two days in a row by the same person.

It is not only frustrating and annoying, but pretty scary too. I promise I’m not a cyclist who yells at people in bike lanes or acts super entitled and dickish, I just politely go around and carry on my way. But even if I was the type to be a dick back to these drivers, why would I? I’m on a 50lb aluminum frame and these guys are in a ton of metal, it only takes one ignorant fucker to have a lapse in judgement and end my life or disable me.

My city is recently doing more to protect cyclists though. They are painting the bike lanes green and putting up signs stating “bike friendly town” yadda yadda, but it is a big town with a lot of people unhappy sharing the road, and will harass me just because my presence forces them to decelerate for 5 seconds before passing me.
