Does a M.S. make MD-PhD applications more competitive?

Hi everyone!

I am an incoming college freshman & I'm trying to get a plan on my next four years. I'm planning on majoring in Chemistry, which my school offers a 3+1 BA/MS or BS/MS for (complete undergrad in 3 years + accelerated masters).

I'm certain that I want to pursue medicine and also research, but I also want to minimize my gap years. Is there any benefit of applying MD-PhD programs after completion of the masters versus applying straight out of a B.S (no bridge year)? Thanks in advance :)
