Thoughts on Australia’s budget from this week?

Maybe too niche/daily political for this sub, but thought it was interesting as an example of a mainstream Western political party in government actually doing something against the interests of the investor classes.

Idpol nexus: backlash of Boomers whinging about the changes as generational discrimination.

Will be interesting to watch capital’s next move to swarm this threat to the system. Corporate media here in Aus are already kicking into gear to obfuscate and scare the voters that this is actually a Bad Thing.

If I was one of the owners of this country, I’d be furious with the conservative centre-right party here (called the “Liberals”) for fucking up their political strategy so hard the past 5 years that they became so weak that the Labour party dared even to try this.

It’s an interesting data point for my personal mental model of how the West works, as I’d assumed that centre left mainstream parties like Labour (or the Democrats in the US) were basically castrated controlled opposition that had been co-opted by capital. That might still be true to an extent, but then something like this budget comes along and I must admit it forces me to modify my priors.
