Is acute care or rehabilitation PT a satisfying career in the US?

Hello all! I am a recent MScPT grad from Canada in my first year of practice, working in both a private MSK clinic and acute care. Although I knew I preferred more hospital-based PT when I was in school, I was indecisive and didn’t want to start my career by closing doors. I do love being able to help people in my private practice role and the demographic I work with, but I feel like all I do is give massages and that’s not what I went to school for and its affirmed for me that I do prefer hospitals. I like the collaborative setting, more balanced and normative scheduling, and really just the nature of helping people when they are really sick. Long term I would love to work in a rehab hospital, as I find it fascinating the functional gains that can be made in an intensive setting like that.

I’m in a long-term relationship with a US citizen and beginning to explore pathways to licensure there, but I just want to be sure that if I’m going to invest extra time and money into this that I will have a rewarding career and good job satisfaction. I often see a lot of folks on this sub complaining…
