Please help! Seeking advice for incoming non-ENGRUD student wanting BioE
My son just got off the waitlist at UW! However, because he was waitlisted he did not get DTC to the College of Engineering. What are his HONEST chances of getting accepted into BioE through the "capacity constrained pathway" his sophomore year?
He was accepted into the College of Engineering at CU Boulder, but I know his first choice is UW! I've been researching UW Engineering acceptance rates and feel like I keep running across conflicting information. I don't want him to turn down CU if it's not likely he'll get into BioE at UW.
The UW engineering website makes it SEEM like 79% of "current UW non-engineering student" eligible applicants are accepted into BioE (even showing an 86% admission rate for applicants applying to BioE as first-choice major in 2025). https://www.engr.washington.edu/admission/current-uw-non-engineering/admission-data
But on the ENGRUD web page the 2025 placement data shows that 105 ENGRUD students requested BioE as their first choice major and 81 were accepted (77%). https://www.engr.washington.edu/current/placement/data
It doesn't make sense to me that applicants not accepted initially into the college of engineering would have a slightly BETTER chance of getting into BioE than the ENGRUD students?? I fear I'm misinterpreting the information given and therefore overestimating my son's realistic chances of getting into BioE at UW.
Any advice or firsthand knowledge would be VERY much appreciated - thank you!
