Otto displasia

Hello,

I wanted to share some updates about Otto.

Otto had the Ortolani test performed, which, as I understand it, did not produce the “click” needed for a positive result. That was with the first veterinarian I visited.

After that, I took him to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), Argentina, where a team evaluated him and performed several radiographs in position 1 and some additional methods. There, they told me that he does have hip dysplasia. I’m sharing the X-rays and the results.

Afterwards, they performed a Juvenile Pubic Symphysiodesis (JPS). From what I understand, there are two similar surgeries of this type: one where they cut the cartilage and stabilize the bones with screws, and another where they use electrocautery to burn the growth plate. Otto had the electrocautery procedure.

He is currently 4 months and 25 days old. I understand that he may be slightly older than the ideal timing, but since he is a Bernese Mountain Dog, they told me he still has a chance because he still has a lot of growing left to do.

I wanted to know what I should expect from the surgery. Has it worked for others? How long should I wait before I can tell if it helped? And what have your experiences been?

Thank you all very much. Thanks to your help, I was able to understand the condition better and take him to the right veterinarians.
