The lethal dosage of caffeine for a rat is 367/mg/kg. Given that the median mass of an albino rat is 387.5g (average mass 225 - 550g), and the median mass of an Eastern chipmunk is 108g (66 - 150g), the theoretical lethal dosage of caffeine for a chipmunk, based on the mass of the rat being 3.588 times larger than the chipmunk, is 102mg/kg (or 11.04mg based on the median weight). The average amount of caffeine in a fluid ounce of frozen coffee is, at most, 15mg. Considering that the cup is 12oz, this would mean that Ian fed them 180mg of caffeine or 16.3 times the lethal dosage of caffeine for a chipmunk. Even if we were to add in the line where Ian mentions the coffee having, “Two pumps of chocolate”, chocolate syrup has 5mg of caffeine per fluid ounce. Even if a pump refers to a fluid ounce, two pumps would be dangerously close to a lethal dosage (10mg). Considering that the chipmunks have consumed approximately 160 milligrams of coffee, including the chocolate, we are watching them painfully die in real time, as they lose control of their bodies and injure themselves by slamming into the walls.
