I just learned how to properly engage my core

Ive worked out on and off for years. Been consistent these last 18 months and today I finally learned how to properly engage my core. Ive tried doing this while doing a body weight squat and its tough. Why is this tough for me? Is it because its new? I can squat 265 for 5 reps, pain free.
