I'm currently riding a Giant TCR with the stock Shimano 105 11x28, 11-speed, and do a lot of climbing. More frequently than I'd like, I get to the top of a climb and people are shocked to see me on a 28. It's all doable if you're dumb and like to grind, but I'm looking at a couple of rides with 10,000+, and considering literally changing gears.
It's a dumb question, but I really like my bike and have an irrational attachment to the stock setup. What's it like riding on the 11x34? How much of a boost do those lower gears get you, especially on 10-12% grades? Do you lose anything from the other gears? Is it worth it? Is it cheating, or is it fair game on bigger climbs?
