Need help deciding where in Colombia to stay

I am traveling for a month from thanksgiving-Christmas this year. I’m pretty sold on visiting Colombia largely because I’d really like to go to Tayrona. I am traveling solo, and largely want to spend my days in the water snorkeling/swimming doing water activities and also want to see as many monkeys and sloths as possible. In the evenings I want the option to go some close bars (beach bars/partys) sound amazing. I was initially looking at staying in Taganga, so I wouldn’t be right in the heart of Santa Marta, but also closer to Tayrona. I’ve also looked into staying in Palomino and am very interested in that. I have read and heard some negative stories regarding safety, which I’m not too concerned about as I know bad things can happen anywhere, but I’d also like to set myself up for a stress free, enjoyable trip. Close to amazing beaches, and restaurants/bars that I can have the time of my life at without constantly looking over my shoulder or worrying about being taken advantage of. Is there anywhere specifically you would recommend for what I’m looking for? Really appreciate any help and advice I can get as Colombia is the only part of my vacation that I don’t have fully figured out yet. Thanks!

I’m staying in West Bay this December. I have read a lot about people who have stayed there and hired different companies to drive them around and take them to different areas. My question, if I just book an Airbnb centrally located in West Bay, will that be good enough to enjoy the beaches, snorkeling etc or do I also need to look into a local travel company for getting around and doing those things?

I am taking a month off from Thanksgiving - Christmas this year. I already have plans to sail around the San Blas islands for a week. I have looked extensively into Roatan Honduras recently and really like the looks of that. My initial plan was to spend time in Puerto Viejo also but I’ve already been to CR (pacific side) and don’t want to short myself a better experience somewhere else. Ideally I’m looking for a place with pristine beaches and immaculate waters to snorkel/dive in. Generally speaking a chill/laidback beach vibe is what I’m into, but also like the ability to go out and meet people where there is a good nightlife. A mixture of the two. I’m open to going somewhere more inland also if there is a certain experience that’s a once in a lifetime sight. Any and all Central America countries are on the table, and I’m asking for the best recommendations for my above interests. Thank you!
