Almost bought my first home, inspection report made me back out
Edit: we didn’t walk because of the can in the wall! This was just a comical part of the inspection report. There were many other problems that needed to be addressed: mold, electrical issues, septic tank deteriorating, and termite damage l. I’m not that petty to walk away because of a can lol
I’ve been looking at homes for about a month and every time we put an offer in, someone else got to it first or offered more. That’s fine, no big deal. I finally found a home that had charm and was within my budget (under 350), which should’ve been my first sign of “it’s too good to be true”. Anyways, we made the offer, seller accepted, did all the loan things, and ordered the inspection. The report came back and left little to be desired as someone not looking to do major work on a house I’m buying. A previous owner sealed a Mountain Dew can into the wall? Why?? I feel like this level of laziness took more effort than sealing the hole properly. We were thinking maybe an old pipe or dryer exhaust at some point? Does anyone have any ideas what the thought process was? There were numerous other issues the inspector pointed out, some from the age of the home and others were potentially larger electrical issues. I’m at peace with my decision to walk, I feel bad for the seller but some things just shouldn’t be overlooked.
