ML Paris PhD admission conundrum
I need a little advice regarding potential PhD position in/around Paris. I hope I didn’t mess up the category haha
My GF & I were looking for PhD programs throughout Europe (different fields entirely). She got accepted to Paris-Saclay which now narrows my search specifically to Paris.
I’ve been sending emails to different professors/supervisors but with absolutely no luck. Do you have any tips on how I can try to increase my chances? Even suggestions on potential Labs? How does the interview process look like?
A little bit about me:
The thing is my Master’s thesis was absolute dogshit. I had a mentor who was absolutely not interested in my project and doesn’t do research related to the field (I did some comparative study for RL, or at least, I tried to). He’s more of a “parallel computing” type of guy instead of AI. Also - I have been working full time for the entirety of my masters so it dragged on a bit. I am currently employed and working as an AI engineer (not that it matters too much). I’m hitting 28 years this year so I’m not sure what’s the best course of action tbh. I really want to do a PhD but life kept coming in the way and now I want to figure something out. Honestly, it’s not about the money. Working in the industry is really soul sucking, I barely look forward to work. I want to do interesting research at an interdisciplinary program, cybersecurity/biology/medicine + AI.
Am I doomed, chat? Would it be better to apply to an M2 Masters and try to find a side job to keep myself alive in Paris haha
If you have any questions, I’m going to answer them in the comments below.
