Reoccurring Neck Kinks

In the last year I’ve had a minimum of 12 neck kinks.

They are brought on by usual movement, for example a few causes were

- moving in bed
- picking something off the floor
- walking out of door
- drying my hair

The pain starts below my skull, down one side of my neck then like a line down to my shoulder blade and then sometimes down my arm.

They can vary in how bad they are. Today’s is extremely bad, left side, arm is heavily affected, I just stopped out the door and it happened. Can’t move my head left right up down much at all. My whole body kinda got stuck in a permanent flex, I was shrugging and my arm stuck very rigid. Reminiscent of when I broke my back and seized up to protect my spine (L1 compression, 2021).

The pain is extremely sharp. Excruciating, surprising how bad it is. I can’t sleep, I can’t roll over without extreme pain. I’m getting bed sores. I’ve tried heat bags, paracetamol (can’t have much else due to thinners). Diazepam released my muscles a little.

They usually take 10-14 days to resolve or at least ease to the point of using my neck more normally.

More history:

2024-2025 was full of stress, rough year.

I’ve had stair falls in 2014 & 2015. Come off off-road bikes in 2019, 2025 and 2026 (neck not technically hurt at the time).

I’ve tried physio, sports massages, chiropractor. Nothing helps. In fact every time I do the physio exercises a kink usually follows. Hard to get into a regime when I have to keep pausing.

Ive had to cancel almost every plan this year because of it happening. Experiences gone and so is the money. I’ve stopped booking things now. I feel I can’t do anything - when I do, this happens with some normal movement. Even when I don’t have plans it happens. Quality of life is low. I work, I eat, I sleep and lose money on all the stuff booked in the past that I can’t make.

Any ideas of what this could be?

Also, do you have any tips of what could ease it? I need to work, I don’t have sick pay.

Thank you!

I had bilateral PEs back in March 2024. Apixaban lifer.

Prior to this I rarely found myself affected by lung problems with coughs.

Now, if something gets on my chest I cannot shift it for 3-4 months.

Currently 6 weeks into it happening again. Started with irritation with fumes (I think). Turned from chest pain into a cough in 3 days.

Got sent to ER on week 5. D-dimer is up but x ray and ct are clear.

This week my entire day is filled with coughing with the occasional 5-10 minute calm. I had violent fits at different times (just before going to sleep, after dinner, whilst resting etc) where I am on the verge of throwing up and sharp shoulder pains like they’re going to dislodge. I am exhausted.

A GP finally prescribed steroids and antibiotics yesterday. I hope it helps.

Has this happened to anyone else?

My next Heam appointment is September.
