my 1996 has 34psi fuel pressure at the schrader valve, normal?

Looking for more opinions. 96 is a strange year for these. There is a lot of differing opinions on forums as to what pressure the 96 should have.

at idle my fuel pressure is 34psi at the rail. this is a returnless system, so my pressure regulator must be in the tank with the pump.

Anyone with a 1996 know their fuel pressure? My build date is 09/1995 by the way.

aftermarket gauges or the stock cluster?

I want to get away from my dummy lights and install real sensors in place of the switches. I was thinking I would either find a gauge cluster that works with my wiring harness, or just leave the dummy lights and install a panel of aftermarket gauges somewhere. I already have some new stewart warner gauges for water temp and oil pressure.

My hangup is, no matter what setup, I hear so many people saying their specific gauges are inaccurate. Anyone have advice?

I have seen some people say replacing the head gasket as preventative maintenance is a bad idea, like you're not supposed to mess with things that are working ok. I just bought my 96 cherokee and its very original and untouched. The head gasket has most likely never been changed. I just want to go through a bunch of things for peace of mind and confidence on trips. Is there something specific to the 4.0 that makes it hard to seal?

I did a head gasket on an old bmw engine when I added a turbo to it and it runs perfectly with no issues. I have a lot of experience wrenching, i'm just starting to worry the 4.0 head has some unique characteristics that make people avoid the head gasket. I have ordered a felpro gasket and head bolts and all the related gaskets, fluids, etc. Thanks for your time

found a lapis blue 96, it’s my first cherokee. 80,000 driving miles and 80,000 miles pulled behind a camper is what the previous owner says 🤷‍♂️ only one owner before me who bought it new in 96. no rust, everything is mechanically in great shape. interior and paint are decent but that’s ok. got some bilsteins on the way, but keeping it stock
