If not an epidural what medication was used for stitching tears?

Some studies and doctors will deny that the epidural interferes with natural oxytocin production. If that’s the case why is the epidural often followed with Pitocin which is synthetic oxytocin?
I try to put some trust in doctors and the hospital but it feels like they are often gaslighting people especially pregnant women.
