TUM Aerospace Master’s: workload, lifestyle, and overall experience?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently doing Mechanical Engineering at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and I’m considering the Aerospace master’s at Technical University of Munich.

I wanted honest opinions from current students or graduates, especially regarding workload and lifestyle.

Compared to a Mechanical Engineering bachelor’s at a place like KIT:

  • How demanding is the Aerospace master’s really?
  • How many hours per week do you realistically spend studying?
  • Does it still feel like constant “survival mode” like the bachelor’s, or is it more manageable/specialized?
  • Do you still have enough freedom for weekends, gym, social life, travel, etc.?
  • How stressful is exam phase compared to the bachelor’s?
  • Do most people actually finish in 4 semesters?
  • Are aerospace internships/Werkstudent positions realistically manageable during the degree?
  • Is the environment collaborative or very competitive?
  • Overall, did you genuinely enjoy the master’s experience?

Trying to understand whether the master’s feels more balanced than the bachelor’s or if it’s another few years of nonstop pressure.

Would really appreciate honest experiences.

Hey,

I’m considering Georgia Tech’s online aerospace/mechanical master’s and wanted some honest input.

My background:
- Mechanical Engineering @ KIT (Germany)
- GPA: 2.8 (German scale)
- Project: CFD-based cooling system design
- U.S. citizen

Would this background be considered competitive?

Also curious how much GPA matters vs project/engineering experience.

Appreciate any insight.
