advice on my Sri Lanka motorcycle loop & number of days Aug - Sep

I’m planning a motorcycle loop around Sri Lanka and would love some advice from people who have traveled there.
My main goals are adventure, relaxing, experiencing the local culture, and meeting locals and other travelers. I don’t want the trip to feel rushed.
My current plan is:
Colombo – 1 day
Negombo – only for the beach/bay, possibly just a stop
Sigiriya – 2 days
Kandy – 2 days
Nuwara Eliya – 2 days
Ella – 2 days
Udawalawe National Park – undecided whether to stay or just pass through
Mirissa – 2 days
Galle – 2 days
Colombo – 1 day

I’ll be traveling by motorcycle, so I’m also interested in scenic roads and places where I can stop and explore rather than just visiting the main tourist attractions.

Would you add more days to any of these places?
Which places would you skip or reduce?

Sri Lanka vs Vietnam

I’m currently deciding between Sri Lanka and Vietnam for my next vacation, and I’d really appreciate some honest opinions from people who have traveled around Sri Lanka by motorcycle.

I’ve already been to Vietnam and absolutely loved it. The food was great and widely available, the people were friendly, the nature was beautiful, and I did a motorcycle trip there that was one of the best travel experiences I’ve had. I also felt that accommodation and food were generally clean and easy to find.

I’m considering Sri Lanka this time, mainly because I want to do a motorcycle loop through different cities and areas, rather than just stay in one place.

However, I’m a little hesitant. From what I’ve seen online, I’m not sure what to expect regarding cleanliness, hostels, roads, general infrastructure, and the quality of accommodation. Maybe I’m getting the wrong impression from what I’ve seen online.

For those who have traveled around Sri Lanka, especially by motorcycle:

  • Is Sri Lanka actually worth visiting for this kind of trip?
  • How does it compare to Vietnam in terms of nature, roads, food, cleanliness, accommodation, and overall experience?
  • Is doing a motorcycle loop around the country a good idea?
  • Which areas/cities would you recommend including?
  • And most importantly, if you’ve been to both Sri Lanka and Vietnam, which one would you choose for a motorcycle trip and why?

I’m not looking for a luxury trip — I’m fine with simple accommodation — but cleanliness and decent food are important to me.

Planning a Motorcycle Trip to Sri Lanka (September) – Looking for Advice

Hi everyone,
I’m planning a solo backpacking trip to Sri Lanka this September, and I’m thinking about renting a motorcycle and exploring the country for around two weeks.

I’d really appreciate any advice from locals or travelers who have done something similar.
Here are a few questions:
Is September a good time to visit? How is the weather around the country?
Is Sri Lanka a good destination for backpacking?
Are there plenty of budget hostels where it’s easy to meet other travelers?
How are the local people? Is it easy to interact with locals as a solo traveler?
How is the food? Any must-try local dishes?
Are the roads generally in good condition for motorcycle travel?
Is riding a motorcycle around the island enjoyable and safe? Any things I should watch out for?
Are there reliable motorcycle rental shops? Any recommendations?
Are there any routes or places that I absolutely shouldn’t miss?
Is there anything you wish you had known before traveling around Sri Lanka by motorcycle?

For context, I’m an experienced rider and I’m looking for a mix of nature, beaches, mountains, local culture, and good food rather than luxury travel.

the recent Couchsurfing update.

I really miss the old Couchsurfing.

The platform used to be a great place to meet travelers, make friends, and join local events. Everything was easy to use, from messaging and finding hosts to creating trips and attending meetups.

Unfortunately, the new update has made the experience much worse for me. The interface feels less user-friendly, and many features that were previously easy to access now seem more complicated.

What disappoints me the most is the introduction of additional fees. As a long-time supporter of the platform, this was not what I expected. I paid for the subscription hoping for a better experience, but instead I feel frustrated and disappointed.
