Ring shopping NYC - boutique jewelry store prices pretty high?

Hey, shopping for rings in NYC! We went to check out some boutiques (like Greenwich St. Jewelers who we liked) and their diamond prices are 2-4x the price of the same diamonds online (so paying $8000 for a diamond online that is 2-4000$)

The markup is very high - on the flip side, I like how easy the process is..

I'm prepared to buy, but is it worth paying $4000+ extra versus the same diamonds online?

Differentiating bow tie from reflection?

Hey all, I’ve been looking around for diamonds for an engaement ring. I’m looking for a pear shape diamond and was hoping to minimize the “bow tie” effect.

I found this 4.1 carat, D VS1, excellent cut that I like, but I’m having trouble deciding if this is too much “bowtie” effect, or its a reflection because I’m wearing black clothing and the phone is black as well?

Any tips on ways to evaluate bowtie effect?

Added some pics of the diamond here too. It’s under a plastic case here since I was looking at settings for it too.
