AI Underground (AIU) Workshop

Research & Curriculum Summary

The Monday night AI Underground (AIU) Workshop has grown into much more than an introduction to AI tools. It now functions as a creative framework for generative media, music production, artistic philosophy, pedagogy, and creative systems design.

1. AI as Instrument, Medium, and Creative System

A core idea in AIU is that AI does not replace artistry. Instead, it is treated as an instrument, collaborator, probabilistic medium, and source of raw material that still requires human judgment.

Key ideas:

• Editing over generation

• Curation as authorship

• Intentionality within stochastic systems

• Preserving artistic identity in generative workflows

• Restraint within abundance

2. “Commission Season” & Psych & Flow Collaboration

A major focus of the workshop is the development of a curated beat library for Dr. Simon Howard’s University of Miami course, Psych & Flow. AIU serves as both a collaborative creative lab and a pedagogical production pipeline.

• Structural clarity and groove psychology

• Rhythmic pocket and intentional negative space

• Flow-state supportive production environments

• Sonic architecture as psychological mapping

• Review and refinement pipelines for curriculum integration

3. Genre as Architecture

AIU approaches genre not as surface-level aesthetics, but as a structural design system. Trap music, in particular, is analyzed through:

• Sub-bass topology

• Hi-hat architecture

• Syncopation grids

• Transient behavior

• Spatial hierarchy

• Pocket placement and rhythmic density

The Emerging Identity of AIU

AIU is no longer simply a workshop about making AI-generated songs. It is evolving into a creative systems laboratory focused on authorship, structure, psychology, pedagogy, and the future of generative media.
