"The Early Bird Gets the Worm, But Worms Don't Pay the Bills"

So here I am at 4:30 AM with my coffee looking for work, hoping to catch a newly posted job before the post is flooded with applicants. They say "the early bird gets the worm," which is great, but last time I checked, worms don't pay my bills or cover health insurance.

And if one more person tells me "it's just a numbers game," I am going to pop. Easy for them to say, most of those people actually have jobs.

When you look at the recent headlines: Amazon has eliminated over 30,000 positions across multiple layoff rounds, Meta cut roughly 8,000 employees earlier this year, Microsoft eliminated another 4,800 roles, and Oracle has slashed about 21,000 positions over the past year alone. Well, all those people are now joining "the numbers game" too.

People love to reassure me: "Oh, but those corporate tech people aren't going for the same jobs you are!"

BULLSHIT. We are all going for any job. There are so many experienced, brilliant people who, at this point, just want a paycheck and a solid role.

According to my own research, estimates show that AI could replace anywhere from 10 million to as much as 92 million jobs globally by 2030. WTF? Heck, I can’t even go through the local Wendy’s drive-thru without the AI order taker completely ruining my order. (In my own petty protest, I’ve stopped going.)

So, I take a deep breath. Have another cup of coffee, because maybe today is the day my application finally breaks through the AI wall, a real person actually reads it, and I get the opportunity to speak with a human being.

How's everyone else holding up in the early morning job hunt?
