Bracing/supporting points?

Hey all, I’ve been going through my box of broken points, and l noticed my points have been consistently snapping approximately half way across the length, with a distinct curved hinge fracture along the snap. I’m also mostly using indirect when these types of breaks occur. I usually start with an initial round of thinning, the getting the shape into my points, and refining from there, making sure the centre doesn’t get too thin (though admittedly I often forget about the base).

I suspect my issue is with support during indirect percussion, which seems to be a fairly common point of failure for others as well.
How do you support your points that are successful? Do you maximize contact with your hand, hold onto areas on areas of concern, grip lightly or harshly? I would love to hear about your techniques!!
