Does Dark Souls 1 need a remake?
Hello everyone, recently I started and have now just completed Dark Souls 1 for the first time. Surpringly, this is the only FromSoftware game besides DS2 that I have not completed. I love FromSoftwares games deeply, but I cannot help but feel that Dark Souls 1 is missing big parts of a true masterpiece. I believe the first half of the game is pretty fun and overall amazing to play through. I loved Anor Londo + Ornstein & Smough, and Blighttown was surpringly a fun area for me too. However, I truly do believe the second half is god awful. There’s no fun items to find, the areas are ugly and are nowhere near the level of detail in the first half, and the bosses are atrocious. Speaking of bosses, I’m very mixed on Gwyn. Parrying in this game is incredibly easy compared to DS3 in my opinion, so it makes his fight incredibly easy. I could understand parrying all of his attacks to be a good challenge for the player if it used DS3 parrying, but instead I beat him first try because everyone I knew said before the fight, “Try parrying, trust.” Lastly, although I loved Artious and thought Manus was a decent fight, I really believe that the DLC areas are also kinda uninteresting too, but I’ve only played the Bloodborne DLC so maybe I’m being too rough on it since the only add on I’ve played was the best one they made (according to fan speculation).
I want to make it clear that I do not believe this is a bad game nor did I hate playing it. I’m glad to have experienced the beginning of this series but can’t help but feel a remake could truly make this game better. Thoughts?
