I cant stop thinking of that

I've been ruminating about the ending of Death's End and in addition to several things discussed here, I think a big theme of the series is the inability of us Earthlings to cut the umbilical cord with Earth. In Tianming's tales he very clearly talks about bending technology for light-speed ships. Why the hell would he put that there if it wasn't important for Earth to develop? and then the government goes there and prohibits the development of an important technology in order to become "invisible" and send "the message of security" so that everyone can stay on Earth, stagnant. Has anyone else read Asimov's "The End of Eternity"? this doesn't work eather.
