Did you like to babysit?

I loved the BSC books growing up, but I hated babysitting. I got roped into it a few times for family and friends but never actively sought out jobs. Oddly enough, the books prepared me well and a bunch of tips and tricks seeped into my brain. I didn’t realize it until I became a parent though.

Did you babysit? Did you enjoy it? And did the BSC books help you be a better sitter?

SS4: Island Adventure

I’m reading this book again for the first time since I was a kid and I can’t get over this exchange between Jessi and the woman at the community center. Why were the staff at the community center not keeping an eye out for the boats? Why did it take several phone calls from the family to get the staff to alert the Coast Guard? Why was no one worried about the giant storm? It’s wild to me that the community center staff have some role in monitoring the safety of the boat crew (as they are tasked with alerting the coast guard) but they didn’t seem to notice that the two boats filled with kids failed to return after a storm.
